Starting with a blank canvas was crucial in the design development of the Bidadari Apartment. As apartments become increasingly smaller in the garden city state, it was about making the space feel open yet filled with all the functionalities of a home.
By breaking down the kitchen and yard, it gave way for a monolithic stainless steel island and attached dining to accommodate small gatherings. It also provided a sense of a much larger space upon entering the apartment.
Working with an extremely monochromatic palette, the floating console below the TV is the only spot of colour you see in the communal space of the apartment. The clients had also intended to furnish and decorate the space with bold and unique pieces of furniture, artwork and toys in time to come, so providing them with mostly neutral built-in pieces and an almost gallery-esque environment was key in giving them room for their long-term acquisitions and displays.
